I recently explored the Castlefield Viaduct and it was a hidden gem right in the heart of Manchester! The historical significance and the serenity of the surroundings make it a must-visit. The National Trust's dedication to preserving and sharing our heritage shines through. The guided tour was informative, and the viaduct's architecture is stunning. A peaceful retreat for history enthusiasts—five stars! Highly recommend.

So pleased the National Trust are investing in projects like this. A most enjoyable visit and really great to talk to the staff who are so passionate about the work they are doing. Will certainly return each season to see how it evolves. It seems to have its own separate microclimate up here - not cold at all.

Downside first - the ‘how to get there’ info really needs to show which road the lifts are actually situated in. We drove right past one, & could have easily parked there as well. From Castlefield Metro station after the platform signposts you have to look on the pavement for arrows - no finger posts or boards to guide you. Didn’t know there were wheelchairs available at entrance. Of the 2 toilets one was out of action, the other had a door that was exceptionally hard to close. This is in the holiday season, too. And from first impression at entrance it’s just a ‘re-wilding’ look. Shame one can’t see the flower beds and trees abundant in the main section. Audible guide sets might be useful (on payment of a deposit perhaps?) THE PLUSES - IMAGINATIVE, INFORMATIVE, great views across Manchester skyline. I imagine it’s worth buying tickets in advance if you get a guide with it.

Really nice to finally visit after hearing so much about it. I love all the moss on the tram lines which makes a real difference to the look of the tram stop, which is just near the viaduct. We had booked in on line for an early slot at 11:20am, there was a small group of us. A young man gave us a little talk about the history of the viaduct and we had a little wander ourselves. Great idea to make something if the viaduct which had not been used since 1969. We need to keep some history in Manchester. It’s free to visit which is always good and they are looking at extending it at some point.

The views are amazing, but was a little underwhelmed after all the hype on MEN and socials. It’s something that’s worth seeing once, mainly for the views outside the gardens. If you turn up after 1pm you can just walk in, before that you need to book a slot. It’s free to enter. There are toilets on site as well.

Well worth a visit especially if you have kids that need to explore. walk up lots of steps to see a great pathway through the sky with fabulous views of Manchester city skyline. A collection of community groups coming together with National Trust. Great to experience a city from a quiet natural space integrated with an industrial feel. And its free with volunteers manning the location whats not to like.

I've been waiting to visit Castlefield Viaduct since is first opened. We went on a Thursday just after visiting the Science & History museum which is only a 5 minute wait away. I looked it up before going and states you don't have to book after 1pm, when we arrived there was a few people waiting so they have a one in one out thing going on as apparently it was busy, we only waited about 3 minutes. It wasn't busy at all when we entered! I was a little underwhelmed with the size of it but it was beautiful and great for photo opps! I think one thing is missing though and that's a little café maybe? We had 2 small children with us so we would have used this as a facility. Its lovely though and I hope its something that can stay in the city.

We made the visit as a family in the summer holidays. We had seen a lot about it in the press. Whilst the vision in redeveloping the viaduct is impressive it didn't wow us in reality. The length of the new linear park is quite short and, at the moment, there is only one entrance/exit. The idea is great and hopefully phase 2 will improve connections using the viaduct and introduce a greater variety of spaces. Sorry National Trust, we love what you do in general.
